Six Point Lead – Light Lies

Six-Point-Lead-Light-Lies A fairly young band on the scene and formed back in 2008 and with an EP release under their belts, Six Point Lead are young but bear all the necessary tools to become a big powerhouse of metal. Light Lies is their first full-length release and was recorded in the summer of 2012 and was subsequently released in Fall of the same year, and with its eye-catching artwork (no pun there) it really sets this up to be an important time for the young guns.

So how does Light Lies sound? First of all, it is as expected: it’s not going to be a polished and clean-sounding album, as it’s going to sound raw and gritty – truth to be hold, I dislike metal albums that are overproduced. Raw and gritty is how all metal albums should sound.

The first track “Dogs of War” really opens up the album well with amazing drum work – lots of double kick work here – and riffing guitar work as well as the thunderous bass tone, and then finally the vocals enter. The music is right in your face with the constant double kick work and amazing guitar/bass interplay all through “Dogs of War” and the vocals, as well, are also right in your face.

Listening to the rest of the album I found the music of a high standard, especially when you consider that this is their first full-length release. “Altar Boy”, the third track, is a track that I’d like to highlight with its fast rhythms, riffing guitar work / thunderous bass and awesome vocals. That’s not to say that the album is a full-on assault of the senses as at times the band like to do things soft and mellow. With tracks such “So Slow” and “The Road Not Taken Yet” both help to bring this album down a little, before resuming with the heaviness. I really like the album as the band shows they have a lot of potential with all aspects of the album: musicianship, songwriting, instrument ability. This band seem to have it all and are on the verge of something big.

Overall, Light Lies is a really good album from a young band and shows all the hallmarks of a great band that, in the future, going to become really big. If there was anything wrong with this album then I didn’t notice it, as I couldn’t notice any faults. I would highly recommend this album, so please go and check it out.

RATING: 4 / 5
